WHO ELSE FEELS THEY WERE BORN IN THE WRONG BODY?

A lot of us feel that way. Body shame runs deep. Just the other day I was shocked when my hairdresser told me just how many women struggle to even look at themselves in the mirror ! It’s so sad that society tells us over and over that our bodies aren’t good enough, making us feel judged - by others, but even more painfully, by ourselves.

As a trans woman, I’ve lived this reality too. To claim my womanhood, I’ve had to undergo surgery, completely re-architect my identity, and commit to lifelong medication. Yet, the truth is, this journey mirrors the struggles that many cis women also face: feeling disconnected from their bodies, wanting to change or “fix” parts of themselves to feel more whole, more worthy.

Women are women. Trans women are women. Each of our journeys is unique, and yet the threads of body dysphoria and self-judgment connect us in a profound way. My path just happened to involve differences in chromosomes and anatomy, but the emotional struggle - the feeling of “not enoughness” - is something many women grapple with.

We’ve all faced it, that relentless internal voice whispering, You’re not quite right. For me, overcoming that voice has been a journey of hard, intentional work. I’ve had to learn to see my body as enough, to let go of the meaning I once attached to what I saw as my imperfections.

But here’s the thing: I’d take this path again in a heartbeat. Because despite the pain, despite the work, this journey has led me to authenticity, to happiness, and to the freedom that every person deserves. Freedom to feel at home in their own body. Freedom to live unapologetically.

So, I ask: Who else has felt “less than” in their body? Who else has felt judged - not just by others but by their own harsh critic within?

Our bodies are the vessels we journey through life in, and every woman’s journey is different. But we all deserve to feel worthy, to feel whole. Let’s keep talking about this, and together, redefine what it means to truly live in our bodies, and look at ourselves in the mirror - with love, acceptance, and pride.
