FROM WINE CASKS TO EMPOWERMENT: HOW I TOOK CONTROL OF MY LIFE

Five years ago, I came out as Trans.
For years, I’d felt a growing sense that living as a man wasn’t my truth. “I should have been born a girl” was a constant thought in my head. Eventually, I sought medical support, counselling, and hormones, which brought me to where I am today—living happily as the woman I was always meant to be.
People ask me to tell them my “blockbuster story,” by which they mean my gender transition story. They say, “Bobbi, you’re so courageous”, “I can’t imagine what it must have been like.”
Truthfully, unless you’re Trans, it’s hard to understand what it’s like to live in a body that doesn’t feel like your own.
But that’s only half the story.
You see I’ve been through two major transitions. The one you can see—my gender—and the one you can’t: the mindset shifts I’ve made.
My gender transition liberated my body. My mindset transition liberated my mind.
Changing my gender was waaaay easier than changing the thoughts, habits, and beliefs of a lifetime, & this work is never done, but together, my transitions have taken me from feeling like I was failing, to now feeling happy & free, authentic, & liberated, in body & mind.
Most of us won’t transition physically, but we ALL go through transitions, as we move through different stages of life.
I share my story not as a “Trans story,” but as a human one—about struggle, adversity, & life’s challenges – like overcoming fear, getting back up after falling down, and conquering self-doubt.
People ask, “What was life like before you transitioned?”
I talk about the stack of wine casks I would work through each night, about depression, and multiple psychologists. About sobbing in my doctor’s office, antidepressants, and being alone & lonely in my own home with no one who cared.
But I didn’t want that to define me.
Deep down, I always knew I was here for more. I took responsibility for my mental health, changed my environment, got self-aware, found a coach, and eventually came off antidepressants.
At its core, mine is a human story of triumph over adversity, because many of us feel stuck, lost, & hope the pain will go away – it’s not just me.
If I’ve learned anything, it’s this: there is a higher self in all of us. We are more powerful than we know – more capable than we give ourselves credit for. Accessing that power comes through self-awareness, mindset shifts, & taking responsibility of our lives & outcomes.
Ultimately, it’s about us, & how we want to live our lives, & the choices we make along the way.
And that’s my mission: to inspire others to find their own true authentic selves, the selves that already lie within each & all of us.
Love Bobbi ❤️
